Summary/Abstract: Paremiology is the study of proverbs and can be dated as far as Aristotle. The present paper does not intend to give a general description of these units, but some specifications are needed in order to illustrate the genre in the work of the greatest Romanian story teller – Ion Creanga. The proverbs mark his oral style, but also his originality. Most of the proverbs are metaphorical and they are an expression of the man and the world he lives in, but also a powerful reflex of the story teller. The paper underlines the expressivity and the ‘charm’ given by these paremiologic units to Creanga’s work.
