Summary/Abstract: Everything that happens to us changes the way we see the world and ourselves, triggering either the decision or the refusal to act (due to our understanding of action and its outcomes), if not the awareness of our inability to act. Identity is revealed to us by life itself and it reveals life simultaneously, a process, a continuous change we are subject to, be it the ‘inside’ or the ‘outside’ of our concept of the self. In Kaddish identity is shaped by tradition - the ancient prayer that has to be recited for the dead parent, as well as by the study of ancient and modern texts on the ritual of mourning.
