Summary/Abstract: What will become of Africa in the coming decades? Pessimists, whether they are policymakers, academics, politicians, Africans or Europeans, predict dark times ahead. Optimists, however, envisage a bright tomorrow and future prosperity. Will the African Union succeed like the European Union? Will the continent increase economic growth, eradicate poverty and secure peace? Or will widespread wars over power, natural resources, water and religion continue? Will Africa in 2050 be a continent of democracy or a paradise for dictators plundering its natural riches?
