Summary/Abstract: Heart failure is the functional end-stage of heart conditions and represents a major public health care problem to whom proper importance is given in almost every country in the world. Developed countries have devised and implemented nationwide coherent programs that provide an integrated and multidisciplinary care for these patients. Our paper is focused on the status of patients with heart failure in Romania and on the disparities/mismatch between the Ministry of Health’s strategic plan and the actual status of the healthcare system. The paper briefly presents the multidisciplinary team that could provide optimal care for these patients. The topic of coping in heart failure is illustrated with excerpted results from a study that included 150 patients admitted and treated in the Cardiology Department of the Clinical Emergency County Hospital in Cluj-Napoca about coping, anxiety and depression in these patients. To summarize, heart failure represents a complex disorder that generates both physical and psychological effects and requires an increased level of awareness nationwide leading to the establishment of national multidisciplinary programs of care for these patients.
