Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the new realities of the federal-regional relation-ship in the contemporary Russia. The research of the aspects of authorities-intellectuals relations in the sphere of the regional image policy is empha-sized. The conclusion is made that the elitist model of regional management in the sphere of identity, which differs from the traditional for the region way of self-determination of its uniqueness, always, or very often, creates a con-flict potential within the region.
