Summary/Abstract: Liberalism has limits. This is a first disillusion that the liberals had to admit. For the liberals, the limits of their political philosophy are disappointments, not betrayals, there are unrealizable ideals, and not fatal errors. Nevertheless, for some of those who criticise the liberalism these limits emphasize the self-dissolving character of liberalism, which, through this kind of failings, breaks down from the inside. The liberal political philosophy has to adapt itself to those challenges coming from a world that – in a great degree – it had also been created by it. For attaining this goal, it needs a better self-knowledge, implying also a minutious radiography of its limits and illusions.
