Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the current turn of modern linguistics towards social sciences. The discussion focuses on critical discourse analysis - an interdisciplinary field of critical social studies. Selected claims and dilemmas of critical discourse analysis are interpreted in terms of historical links between linguistics and philology, on the one hand, and, on the other, against the general tendencies for interdisciplinarity among modern sciences.
