On the Development of Epistemic Meanings in Contemporary Polish on the Basis of the Verb ‘ktoś głosi, że-’

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to show the mechanism responsible for the semantic development of verbs on the basis of changes in meaning of the lexical item ‘ktoś głosi komuś coś (o czymś)' from which ‘ktoś głosi (o czymś), że-’ was created in the process of semantic derivation. The example sentences were examined with semantic tests and formal alterations in order to verify the hypothesis stating that the verb głosić is still a verb of speaking or maybe an epistemic one.
