Summary/Abstract: The article is a formal − semantic analysis as well as onomasiological classification of proper names used metaphorically in the texts on socio-political issues in the Polish press currently published in Lithuania. In the lexical material under analysis metaphorised proper names as isolated units or as elements of loose lexical constructions make up a group of examples. It appeared that the most differentiated group was the group of proper names that are implicated in the context. Presented metaphors provide many examples of the fact that proper names appear not only in their primary formal forms but also in the secondary semantic functions, most often used in the expressive way and, usually, have a negative connotation. Among proper names personal names clearly dominate (these include names or surnames well-known people).
