Some Remarks on Borrowings and Their Adaptation in the Receiver Language

Summary/Abstract: The problem of language borrowings is widely discussed among various linguists. The scope of discussions covers a wide range of subjects: concrete nominal units, derivation and syntax schemes, intonation and articulation features, word-building formants, etc. Nowadays, it is not hard to notice that contemporary process in language situations is characterized by intensive use of borrowings, mainly from English. The priority of English words is caused by the introduction of new information technologies. The use of borrowings, including English words, provides an easier access to contemporary achievements in science, engineering, culture, etc. Therefore, it becomes a free admission for an ethnic group into civilization. At the same time it is a subject of controversy. The debates touch upon a question of expedient actions to “protect” a native language from foreign influence, to use actively native lexical resources and so on. It is especially important for the verbal communication in mass media because it deals with the problem of lexical borrowings.
