Summary/Abstract: Old Polish prose texts (also the official ones) used various linguistic formulas to manifest the stereotypical opposition between negatively perceived strangeness and positively marked familiarity. Strangers were associated with: crudeness, peasant origin, villainy, bestiality and disgusting appearance.
