Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the usefulness of Stanisław Dubisz’s textbook Je˛zyk - Historia - Kultura (Language - History - Culture) in teaching Polish Studies majors at the University of Zagreb. The analysis shows that the textbook corresponds with the requirements of the Bologna process in several significant ways. Notably, Dubisz offers an appraisal of historical information and a critical review of linguists’ positions regarding this information. In this way, he makes it possible for students to give their own assessment of the presented views, at the same time allowing them to study basic principles of scientific discussion.
