CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE REIGN OF ŞTEFĂNIŢĂ VODĂ (PRINCE OF MOLDAVIA 1517-1527) NEW DATA CONCERNING HIS RELATIONS WITH THE TATARS (1521)

Summary/Abstract: A German report, sent to the Habsburg authorities by an anonymous, in the autumn of the year 1526, reveals important data concerning the history of the Moldavian principality in the 3rd decade of the 16th century. Although the mentioned report was published at the end of the 19th century, the historical informations within where not received and used by the Romanian historiography. Rediscovering the original manuscript of the mentioned German report, at the Austrian State Archives in Vienna (Haus-, Hof und Staatsarchiv, Wien) in May 2012, I undertook, for the first time in the Romanian historiography, an interpretation of this historical account. I corroborated the historical data within this account with other contemporany sources, so that new historical events and details came to light. This study reveals new aspects of the relations of Ştefăniţă Vodă, prince of Moldavia, with the Tatars led by khan Mehmed Giray I in the year 1521 and with the wallachian prince Radu de la Afumaţi in the year 1526. A new transcription of the original report, together with the Romanian translation, is attached to the study.
