The Logos of University

Summary/Abstract: Education as a process in the upbringing of the young was considered by the Hellenes to be one of the most fundamental practices in the polis. The theoretical reason in the Middle Ages discussed not only the formula translatio imperii (transfer of rule), but also the question translatio studii (transfer of learning) alongside the axis Athens-Roma-Paris. Presented is a brief history of university education from its studium generale phase, via the idea of the universitas litterarum, till the present day when the Bologna Process is taking place all over Europe.
