Summary/Abstract: The main causes of the financial crisis in the world economy and their impact on the Polish economy were presented. It was analyzed what can become the long-term consequence of this crisis and what the economic theory suggests as an explanation of this development. The financial crisis of 2007–2009 was compared with the Great Depression of 1929–1933.
