Summary/Abstract: The refrains of Lithuanian folk songs have been investigated very little so far. Like onomatopoeic interjections, language of lots, words of riddles, vocabulary of children, etc. we are the object of interest sphere of phonosemantics. Refrains are the phenomenon of the vocabulary system. This article analyses the phonotactics of monomial explosion refrains, based on statistic data and the comparison of phonosemantics of refrains of different songs is presented. The refrains are selected from 17 volumes of Lithuanian songs. From the results obtained we can draw such conclusions: • R type of monomial explosion of refrains dominates in Lithuanian folk songs- 72,2%; rather frequent are consonants of T type - 23,7%; the explosion of sonants is very rare - 4,1%. • In the explosive part of refrain syllable voiced consonants dominate - 81,9%; Voiceless conso nants make 18,1%. • Palatalized consonants are met twice as frequently as hard consonants. The most frequent is /l’/. • Refrains are the segment of the song text, which directly participates in the creation of image, mood and poetic impression.
