Summary/Abstract: At the request of the Hungarian government, the OECD conducted a peer review of e-government policies and programmes in Hungary. The report completed in October 2006 was managed and written by an expert group comprising the author of the article. In the first part of the article the term “e-government”, as interpreted by the OECD, is clarified and a short summary is given on the reasons why e-government is considered as a useful tool for better government. After the presentation of the analytical framework for the review the main findings and recommendations of the OECD team are evaluated.
