Summary/Abstract: In the article accompanied by the respective annotations are analysed the results of a representative investigation of the anthropological particularities of the Bulgarian people which was carried out by Acad. Metodi Popov in 1938-1943 (See Popov, M. Antropologija na bulgarskija narod, Cast I, Fizicheski oblik na bulgarite, Izdanie na BAN, 1959). The objective of the investigation is to point out the different anthropological types among Bulgarians as well as to analyse the degree to which the Thra-cian population which was to be found in the Bulgarian lands an the population of other tribes and peoples, particularly the Proto-Bulgarians, which came from North-East have participated in the setting apart of the Bulgarian nationality from the enormous Slav mass. The most basic anthropometrical features of representatively selected 8,908 people from all the country's regions in sex and age. As a result from the investigation Acad. Popov separates 7 basic anthropological types with their respective variants and transitional types, namely — Mediterranean, Pontian, Denarian, Alpic, West-Baltic and East-Baltic. This variety of anthropological particularities is explained, as Acad. Popov supposes, by the geographic situation of the Bulgarian lands — transitional, bridge territories from Europe to the Asian and African lands and back — from those land to Europe. In the article there is a short description of the authors and intitutions in Bulgaria which have been and are being involved in works connected with the problems concerning the anthropometrical particularities of the Bulgarian people.
