Summary/Abstract: Theatrical complexity implies the significance of both theoretical and practical goals, as most experts agree. This new concept of commitment to art and science as well as to art theory regards practical theater management and theatrology as equal counterparts. Theatrical theory and practice, i. e., science and dramaturgy, have always been divided in Hungary. Theater directors extrapolate their own experience, concepts and motives into every pro-duction, ignoring and even despising any theoretical feedback on the theater in general. On the one hand, most directors disregard contemporary theatrical theory as well as any related theater management concepts, considering them irrelevant to individual inventions and practice. On the other hand, theatrology should provide some conceptual guidance as well as feedback on theatri-cal practice. Cultural management is different from commercial management in supplying demand through improved cultural awareness and knowledge, generating demand for quality plays and increasing cultural literacy. I have always considered professionalism the most important aspect of theater management.
