Summary/Abstract: The novel Srpnovští páni (The Lords of Srpnov, 1953) by Vladimír Neff is one of the works of its time pursing the innovation of the genre (genre type) of historical novel, resp. its model created by Alois Jirásek. The work parodies and mocks both the genre of historical fi ction itself and history whose overwhelming power is opposed by the freeing power of story-telling. The short study takes notice of some of the narratological aspects of Neff’s prose (e.g. the position of the story-teller, the use of anti-illusion elements including anachronisms etc.).
