Summary/Abstract: The article is divided into four main parts: Jesuits in the First Polish Republic, Jesuits in selected novels of XX century Polish literature, the positive image of Jesuits, and the black legend of Jesuits. The undertaken analyses reveal that Jesuits were a very influential religious order, which possessed outstanding people in its ranks and was able to exercise its impact on higher quarters of political power. That is why they had their proponents and opponents even among the authors of literature.
