Summary/Abstract: When Turkey is interested in becoming member of the European Union we have to consider together, how this could be possible. The European Commission has gone the first step on October 6th. We know the results. When the Turkish Government declares, that becoming member of the EU is also favoured by the vast majority of Turkish people, I have no doubt that this is the political and social reality. But at this point we have to discuss, how the EU of today has been realised. The member states are in agreement on the following aspects: - Between the EEC of 1958 and the EU of 2004 there are a lot of differences. - The structure of the EU of today is the result of a long process. - The beginning was the answer of six states to the Second World War, to the economic disaster after the war, to the destruction of European values by Marxism-Leninism and Nationalsocialism, to the wars in European history.
