Summary/Abstract: This article analyses the theories of labour market regulation to identity the most adaptable model for Lithuania. This issue should be studied to realize the position of the state and whether it meets our expectations. Opinions of different authors on the role of the state in labour market are reviewed. Labour market management is implemented in programmes. The main aim of the programmes is a transition from welfare for the unemployed to creation of new jobs places, consulting, training and retraining. Analysis shows that a third part of programmes is ment for employees in the private sector. This approach is close to the Keynesian theory but on the other hand government takes much responsibility harmonizing supply and demand of labour force.
