Summary/Abstract: The iconostasis is one of the most important architectonic elements of the Orthodox christian churches. It is a whole picture, composed of icons that separate the sanctuary, where the communion of the Eucharist was celebrated, of the central part, the nave, where the congregation is held. Sometimes it is also called "the high wall of the paintings", and the name comes from the Greek "ikonostasis" or "ikonostasion" but in the Greek cult it is also known under the name "temple".
