Dilemmas of literary criticism today

Summary/Abstract: In a discourse. on the intellectual engagement in literary creative work it is useful to call to mind the circumstance that in its approaches and methods, in other words in its own way, from one epoch to the next, such work adopts certain dominant mental patterns of the so-called primary literary production. It has long since been observed that literary-critical postivism - the first trend with scientific aspirations - was constituted as a slightly belated accompaniment of literary realism (or, more precisely: empiricism) and that its culmination, in regard to recognition, was reached at a time when naturalism had the greatest number of followers among playwrights and novelists.
