Summary/Abstract: News breaks among country folk to spread like stormswept waves of wind. A cry, a wild cry, reechoed by every stone-walled house, whirls through every hamlet. For now on, autumn afternoons, men and women talk of life, stubbornly, studiously striving to find grains of that wisdom which we call experience or tradition - or which is but grey hairs. But the songs are ever new and different. The years create customs, yet customs are but crystallized when they begin to be eaten into, honeycombed and broken by ever new deposits of human living.
