Summary/Abstract: Abstract. Setting out with a summary of Vojvodina’s development since the rejection of its autonomy by Milošević in 1990, the article analyses the political constellations responsible for the somewhat surprising regional results in the parliamentary elections of May 2008. The author concludes that the polarization of the elections as a vote “between Kosovo and Europe” led the voters to heavily support Boris Tadić’s Democratic Party, to the disadvantage even of the regional parties. Hence, the fear of the anti-European forces proved to be stronger than all other interests, among them the restoration of the Province’s autonomy . The article describes some economic aspects of the transformation process, comparing Vojvodina’s development to that of the country as a whole. It emphasizes the manifold initiatives already taken up in Vojvodina in terms of its europeanisation, be it in the framework of the Euroregion of Danube-Kris-Mures-Tisa, or in other, bilateral cooperative networks both in the economic and the cultural-scientific sphere.
