Summary/Abstract: International think-tanks experts and representatives of the Moldovan Government, civil society and political parties from Moldova gathered for a brainstorming meeting in Brussels together with European policymakers on May 25, 2004. They examined the situation of Moldova in the light of the latest domestic developments as well as the EU strategy towards its future neighbourhood and its stability...Moldova represents a tough case for the international community. But it is far from being a hopeless one. Once the international political will and commitment that Moldova’s place is in Europe can be forged, accompanied by corresponding measures, no shortage of solutions exist to create new and positive dynamics. Drawing on the policy options discussed during the brainstorming we recommend several actions that will halt the degradation of the situation in Moldova and start building larger pro-European constituencies on both banks of the Nistru river.
