Summary/Abstract: The New Testament Scriptures do not pay witness in a narrative form, but in hymns about God’s work in creation. The main characteristic of this hymn in Colossians consists in its having connected the events of salvation-history and those of creation. The hymn taken from the ancient Christian tradition does not aim at offering a canonized doctrine on Jesus Christ’s person and action of salvation, but at praising Him as well as revealing His being as the beginning of creation and of atonement. It was through Him that all things had been created by God and He is present now in the universe through His divinity. By reciting this hymn the community confessed its faith in Christ and in the fulfilment of His reign in the Church, His body.
