Summary/Abstract: Re-defining sovereignty. It seems that opponents of Czech EU membership are more aware of future developments than its advocates. The political effects of integration are always at the top of their list. Just before EU accession, Czech President Václav Klaus stated that the Czech Republic would cease to exist as an independent state on 1 May 2004.
