Summary/Abstract: The main aim of this paper is to establish the most important psychological factors affecting managerial flexibility. Flexibility is understood as meta-competency, including cognitive, emotional, executive and learning agility aspects. Among these aspects, emotional reaction on new, unexpected and difficult situations was assumed a core element of managerial flexibility. On the basis of Carol Dweck’s (2000) research it was predicted that the emotional reaction on new experience is a result of popular theories about human features and abilities. The conviction that features and abilities can be changed and developed enables to 116 Kinga Lachowicz-Tabaczek treat new and difficult situations as a challenge and facilitates acting in unconventional and creative manner. On the other hand, assuming that abilities are fixed and cannot be changed makes it difficult to act in a flexible way because it causes that the manager concentrates on the evaluation of his/her abilities and the necessity of showing that they are high. The paper presents how theories of human ability may contribute to the development of managerial flexibility.
