Summary/Abstract: The World Energy Crisis at the end of 1973 took by surprise the Romanian economy, which was in that moment in a process of sustained economic growth. Worried of the consequences of the crisis, Nicolae Ceauşescu convoked on January 28, 1974 a meeting of the Permanent Presidium of R.C.P. to analyse the situation of the Romanian oil imports. In a later meeting, on April 26, 1974, Nicolae Ceauşescu criticized all his subordinates for not complying with his indications regarding the cutting down of public lighting.
