Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to outline one of the most significant sociological problems in Silesia – the problem of Silesian identity, nationality and regionalism. At the beginning of the article a brief examination of the historical evolution and development of Silesian identity from 19th century till nowadays is presented and discussed. The second part of this paper refers to research on Silesian identity. Current research on teenagers in Silesian Voivodeship conducted in 2008 is also reported. The results of research done after the Polish census of 2002 are significant, because they show the dynamics of Silesian identity and the phenomenon of mixed identities and Silesian nationality. The said research on teenagers is also important as it can contribute to predicting the results of the next Polish census.
