Critical Biography of János Scheffler

Summary/Abstract: János Scheffler, former bishop of the Diocese of Satmar will be beatified in Satu Mare, Romania on July 3, 2011. He was born on October 29, 1887. He studied theology in Budapest, and he was ordained on July 6, 1910. He studied Church Law in Rome (got his doctoral degree in 1912), stayed at the Santa Maria dell’Anima College. He became professor of theology in Satmar, and was also prefect of the priestly seminary. He got another scientific degree (doctor in theology) at the Pázmány University of Budapest in 1915. He became bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Satmar in 1942. The communist regime imprisoned him in 1952, he died in the communist prison of Jilava on December 6 that year.
