Summary/Abstract: After the downfall of the Taliban regime, Afghanistan crosses a period of political mess, in which various inner factions and outer powers fight to get the upper hand. Abuses against human rights, extremist groups, al-Qaida, religious fundamentalism and tribal frictions mar or even block the attempts to establish a democratic regime.
