Summary/Abstract: The relation of the East German secret service (“Stasi”) to Romania can be divided into two phases: until 1973 Stasi and the Romanian communist secret service “Securitate” cooperated more or less continuously. However, not later than from 1968 on there can be recognized a rupture in the relation of the two secret services, since Romania started to become a hostile brother country from the Stasi’s point of view. Both phasis left its traces in the Stasi files. The article outlines this development and, beyond this, investigates on the basis of the Stasi files, in how far Transylvania was a matter of the secret service’s activities.
