Summary/Abstract: The construction of the church at Široki Brijeg started in 1905. The main structural elements were built in different time periods. By 1910 the walls and the wooden roof had been built, stone and concrete ceilings were completed in 1939, the northern bell-tower was completed in 1927, and the southern one only in 1969. This phased construction of the church had a significant effect on its bearing structure. What the paper presents is just this effect with an emphasis on the ingenuity and expert knowledge of home masters in solving complex static problems. The church started being built on the basis of the basic designs of the engineer Maks David, while the actual originator and architect was fra Didak Buntić. The skill of the architect and the quality of the construction are born out by the present condition of the church after one hundred years. The size, the quality and the beauty of its structure win admiration even today.
