Summary/Abstract: Language situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina is extremely complicated: there are three equal national standard languages in use, which originate from one language and which are “reserved” for three constitutive nations. Situation is additionally complicated by the following facts: a) changes in language situation have been very dramatic – from one supranational BH. language we got, almost overnight, three national languages, b) besides these three constitutional nations there is significant number of authentic language users who are not constitutive or, for various reasons, are not nationally defined, c) communication throughout Bosnia-Herzegovina goes without problems, d) there is no logical equality between language communities and otherwise determined social communities – states, nations, social-cultural environment, e) people still insist on national languages, in spite of fact that their separate identities (or division) are still under question, as well as national / language identities of their users etc. This complex and complicated language situation was not caused by language itself, but by values which are outside language – nation, politics or, more precisely, current national policies. This article examines co-relation between language, nation and politics, as well as issue of national and language identities and other issues related to language in B&H, first of all to Bosnian language.human rights and social sensitivity. Special attention has been paid to education of journalists in transition countries, such as Bosnia-Herzegovina.
