Summary/Abstract: Material in four parts about the members of the former royal family is kept at the Ministry of the Interior. It is the result of the implementation of a scheme of the communist State Security under the general code name “Parasites” during the 1957-1967 period. The main objective of this scheme was to collect compromising facts about the family and mostly about Simeon II after his reaching majority and his coronation as King of the Bulgarians in 1955. From the preserved intelligence reports it becomes clear that the State Security agents failed to discover compromising facts about the personal life of the royal family and mostly about Simeon II. Reports on his successes both in a personal and a professional respect prevailed. Besides the personal, all the political activities of the king in exile were targeted but here again no results “compromising” his activity of this kind were obtained. His trips to various countries were followed up, his attempts at rallying the Bulgarian emigration abroad by frequently repeated calls for that were recorded. The conclusion was that they produced no practical results. The intelligence service reported activities of Simeon II which showed that he cared for the country and his people. Such were his positive attitude towards the resumption of diplomatic relations between communist Bulgaria and the USA, his support for the achievements of Bulgarian sportsmen abroad, his care for the unity of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in other countries, the sending of medicines, etc. Some reports mentioned that Simeon II no longer believed that he would ever return to the country and it was hinted that he had no such intentions. Work on the royal family was discontinued in 1967. On the basis of the facts collected during this particular period of ten years about the activity of Simeon II the conclusion was reached that he did not threaten the security of communist Bulgaria because no data existed that it was “hostile”.
