Summary/Abstract: The author reflects on András Hajdu’s article published in our first number and agrees with him in that a new strategy is needed to revitalise Hungarian-German bilateral relations. He warns that the start of a new German government and the preparations for the German EU presidency in the first half of 2007 are excellent opportunities to think about improving our ties with Germany. In his opinion in the future the traditional forms of regional co-operation may be revived, and Germany will most likely increase coordinated consultations with the Visegrád Four. Co-operation along the Danube can be important, too, and Hungary can be a partner in German diplomacy concerning the EU enlargement and neighbourhood politics in the Balkans. The Hungarian Year planned for 2006 in Germany is an excellent opportunity for us to better integrate in the system of German cultural institutions.
