Summary/Abstract: Social accounting evolved as a scientific discipline in the United States in the 1970s. It underlines the need to inform stakeholders not only about the financial results of the company, but also about the social and environmental consequences of its operations. The paper discusses the development of social accounting in the world and in Poland.
