Differences in the development of poviats of west Pomeranian Voivodeship

Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to assess the economic and social potential of local government units at the second level of Polish administrative division called poviat. On the basis of the variables tested, no conditional convergence was found between the poviats of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Diversification of Polish regions is characterized by high persistence as each of their socio–economic characteristics reinforces the other ones. The range of possible directions of development depends strictly on the present authorities of poviats and regions. Being aware of the potential is important not only for poviats themselves but also for all cooperating institutions.
