Summary/Abstract: On 2nd May 1808 the inhabitants of Madrid took up arms against the Napoleonic invader. The famous Polish light cavalrymen fought together with the French and the Mamelukes against the Madrilenians. On that day a lot of blood was shed in the streets of the capital. However, when after many years Polish soldiers who took part in that battle wrote their memoirs, they tried to decrease their responsibility. This is contrary to Spanish sources.
