Summary/Abstract: The present paper is devoted to the discourse analysis of some excerpts from the transcript of the 2007 televised electoral debate that took place in France. The famous female politician, Ségolène Royal, was qualified for the second round of the election, an unprecedented victory for a French woman. The qualitative analysis of the verbal exchanges between Royal and her counter-candidate Nicolas Sarkozy will reveal the debaters’ negotiation of the significance of some feminine stereotypes, used as arguments in the confrontational and “passionate” environment of the great media event.
