Main Tendencies in the Historiography of the Communist Regime in Romania. Test Case: the Researchers Studying the Archives of the Former Political Pol

Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the author tries to identify the principal directions of historians’ and others specialists’ interests in recent Romanian history, based on the titles of their works, before proceeding on to the real investigation of the archives. These titles, correlated with information from the Historical Bibliography of Romania, indicate, without doubt, that the old frustrations from the totalitarian regime are still present in the mind of many researchers, even in the young generation. In consequence, there is a huge interest in turning to advantage, in many cases by an excessive discourse, the resistance of the anticommunist armed group and in creating a self-laudatory image mean to maintain a real national pride. Economic history, the history of institutions and that of everyday life are neglected and overshadowed by the “heroes and martyrs”, “dissidents and opponents” as well by the repression, terror and persecution.
