Summary/Abstract: The well-coordinated economic policies that Slovenia has applied since joining the EU and the ERM II exchange rate mechanism have paved the way for the country to fulfil the conditions for timely adoption of the euro, which has also been the main short-term objective of macroeconomic policies. As explained below, such an approach has enabled a smooth changeover and preserved the main macroeconomic balances of the Slovenian economy in the first year of EMU membership.[...]
