Summary/Abstract: The Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union was obliged to pre-serve its Christian identity during the rule of the NSDAP. Church struggle be-tween two opposing religious groups – German Christians supporting the Nazi ideology, and the Confessing Church rejecting state interference in church af-fairs, differed significantly in many areas of the Third Reich. In Elbing, the majority of pastors and worshippers, together with church administrators, supported the Confessing Church. However, a minority of German Christians showed their convictions in a very confrontational and def-inite way. They refused to cooperate with the church’s governing bodies and caused many difficulties for their opponents in everyday life.
