Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a sociological analysis of the ways that the Football World Cup 2006 and football rhetoric conquered both the material and the discursive public spaces of Berlin during the championship. The representative outlook and the historic sites of the city were remodeled to turn into football symbols. Advertisement campaigns of commodities and services were rewritten in football jargon. Economic strategies and political debates subdued to the football feast. This paper does not lay claims on being a scholarly research; rather, it is an attempt to share personal observations and to analyze public discourses (in particular, the debates regarding the issues of prostitution and public safety) provoked by the World Cup 2006.
