Summary/Abstract: The transition from the post-Westphalian order to the post-Cold War order causes cognitive problems of methodological and explanatory nature. This means accumulation of phenomena and processes which are a symbol of change, not only in the organization, structure and mechanisms of functioning of the international system, but also the perception of the state, its attributes, uniqueness and indispensability. The morphology of the international system has undergone profound transformations which determines the adaptive processes, assimilation and autonomization processes in post-industrial countries and societies. The author advocates the use of the concept of “spatial imagination” to diagnose the state policy in the new reality of the postmodern era, including the knowledge of the transformation of power relations in the international system.
