Summary/Abstract: Having been informed on «Secret Society» within 1818, Emperor Alexander abstained from any suppressive action till his death in November 1825. The author tries to highlight his motives. The analysis of both official materials and privately originated sources demonstrates that Emperor provided secret observation only and ordered his agents to get, fi rst of all, the documents of conspiracy, and additional information. His forbearing from strict measures was not due to his principal toleration but because of constellation of pragmatically verified political interests, both home and abroad.
